Single Vineyard Series
2015 Hart & Hunter Oakey Creek Semillon
After an almost perfect spring, vintage turned out somewhat interesting this year. The weather in early January put a spin on when to pick for most growers and producers. We definitely took the early bird option and as a result managed to secure all of our vineyards with minimal impact from the weather. The wines produced thus far are delicate but with a crispy acid finish and lower alcohols.
Provenance & Winemaking
Our fifth year in taking fruit from this iconic vineyard has produced a sumptuous yet elegant wine. The fruit was hand-picked, de-stemmed & crushed, pressed and left to settle. We like to rack the clears after 48 hours then inoculate with a neutral yeast. Fermentation is slow and held at approx. 12-15 degrees C. The wine is then racked off gross lees, fined, stabilised and filtered ready for an early bottling to capture and retain maximum freshness.
The wine produced from 2015 is elegant, refined and super delicious. With a pale yellow/green colour and beautiful nose of lime rind, lemon curd and steely lanolin this is enticing from the first sniff.
The palate follows with sublime acidity and lovely weight and texture on the finish, leaving you wanting more.
We have been enjoying the Oakey Creek with Warm beef salad or spicy noodles.
Gorgeous to drink now, but should reward cellaring in the medium term.
