Single Vineyard Series
2015 Hart & Hunter Old Vines Semillon
After an almost perfect spring, vintage turned out somewhat challenging in parts this year, but all of our wines produced thus far are delicate but with a tantalising, crispy finish. The conditions have resulted in our Semillons being lighter and leaner, with the typical lower alcohols.
Provenance & Winemaking
We weren’t really looking for another Semillon, but we happened to meet a grower whilst looking at other fruit and we discovered this lovely old vineyard in Broke, with vines planted in 1921. After talking with the delightful John Tulloch, owner of the property, he clearly remembers farming the vineyard with his brother and father, now managing the vineyard and watching over the old vines as if they were his own children. Low cropping fruit planted on the rich volcanic soils of the Broke Fordwich sub-region, has produced an elegant easy drinking wine.
A richer style of Semillon showing a fragrance of lemon citrus zest, and light talc on the nose. Fine & elegant with real energy & drive showing loads of spiced citrus fruit, light grassy notes & soft, almost lemonade-like acidity. A slightly riper Semillon being more generous on the palate that should reward medium term cellaring.
We are drinking the Old Vine with freshly shucked oysters and lemon.
Definitely enjoy this wine chilled now, but if you can wait it should keep for 5 years
