2016 Hart & Hunter Dr B's Fiano
History & Provenance
Our latest adventure was to create a new space for an alternative set of wines. Wines that allowed us to play if you like, and invoke memories of vintages and travels gone by. A range that wouldn’t compromise on the integrity of our Single Vineyard Wines, but yet gave us the freedom to exaggerate and create something unique.
Welcome to the Black Series..
After spending 3 months during vintage of 2006 in Campania Italy, we discovered our love of Italian varietals including Fiano which originates from this area. Ever since we had been quietly dreaming about securing a small parcel from the Hunter, of which it is a relatively new variety. Being able to handle heat and drought conditions, the Hunter seems to suit this beauty, producing fruit of thick skins and good natural acidity.
From the very beginning of harvest the Fiano threw out this amazing aroma of fresh ginger which just permeated through the winery at different times. It’s just a delightful drink, being so fresh and aromatic, but with a lick of artefact and interesting characters if you are looking for them, originating from the cold soaking on skins. Textural with aromas of flint and warm biscuit, but finishing dry on the palate with hints of orange and pink musk.
We are enjoying the Fiano with garlicky vongole.
A beautiful food wine to be drunk with joy now,
but we expect it will cellar for the short – medium term.
