Single Vineyard Series
2018 Hart & Hunter Oakey Creek Semillon
Following one of the driest years on record since 2003, we have launched into
another hot dry vintage in 2018. Cool overnight temps followed by long hot, dry days
have made for challenging growing conditions with vines generally maintaining
their canopies and a slow steady rise in sugar accumulation. The ultimate result of
two hot dry seasons is lower crop yields, but commanding quality!
Provenance & Winemaking
Our eighth year in taking fruit from this iconic vineyard has produced a sumptuous yet elegant wine. The fruit was hand-picked, de-stemmed & crushed, pressed and left to settle. We like to rack the clears after 48 hours then inoculate with a neutral yeast. Fermentation is slow and held at approx. 12-15 degrees C. The wine is then racked off gross lees, fined, stabilised and filtered ready for an early bottling to capture and retain maximum freshness.
The Semillons from 2018 are crisp, elegant and totally delicious! This being our most subtle still has true power and weight with a palate of traditional flavours such as lemongrass and citrus, whilst finishing with a cool mineral texture.
Try this wine with a warm calamari salad.
Gorgeous to drink now, but should reward cellaring ten + years..
