OUR GROWERS

Viticulture

“We are lucky to work with an amazing selection of growers in the Hunter who have worked their vineyards for decades and have an intimate knowledge of the soils, the microclimate and what is needed to ensure they are producing the best fruit possible, regardless of the change in vintage conditions”

Vineyard details

Damien & Jodie have made wine in the Hunter Valley under their own label for 15 years and learnt their craft from others in the industry prior, and it is very apparent, site selection is a major factor in sourcing quality grapes for wine production for Hart & Hunter. The Single Vineyard Series celebrates these patches of dirt that are a true representation of where these vines are grown.

Hart Vineyard Semillon:

Located on the flats in Lovedale, this dry grown block of Semillon has fast become our Reserve Block. Loam over clay, with tilled mid row, cane pruned, great yielding and dynamic tasting fruit.

The Remparts Vineyard:

Located off Broke Road at the western end of Pokolbin, the Noble Domain Vineyard has approximately 3 acres planted across fine sandy loam soils. Always a little more generous on the palate this vineyard tends to produce riper characters, but layered so beautifully with crunchy acidity.

Oakey Creek Semillon:

This iconic vineyard which continually shows what it can do, even when there are weather events beyond it’s control. On light clay, it is the most delicate of our Semillons with incredible ageing potential and very distinctive vineyard characteristics that reveal themselves each year.

Twenty Six Rows Chardonnay:

Just 26 Rows of tiny Chardonnay vines, approx. 30 yrs old grown in silty clay loam, now off the Hart Vineyard in Lovedale which is dry grown, planted next to the river. Producing quality compact tight bunches, ideal for whole bunch pressing.

Green Lane Chardonnay:

Nestled near the river beds of the Upper Hunter, the influence of the mountain range on the vineyard means cooler temperatures and canopy cover. Medium clay soils with rich cover crops.

Hunter River Riesling:

From the famed Pokolbin Estate Vineyard. The light to medium clay soil of this vineyard tends to stay cooler and retain water better, giving us sumptuous fruit. Generous and elegant in flavour with beautiful acidity.

Grüner Veltliner:

Harvested off the Hunter Ridge site, this delightful Austrian variety is a huge crowd pleaser. The light to medium clay soil of this vineyard tends to stay cooler and retain water better, giving us sumptuous fruit. Generous and elegant flavours with beautiful acidity.

Ablington Shiraz:

The vineyard is approximately 30+ years old now, north-east facing, on light to medium clay. Produces supple shiraz of medium weight, beautiful tannin structure and palate weight. Our all time favourite.

Gabriels Shiraz:

The cellar door block. Approx. 40 yr old vines, grown in clay loam, light cropping canopy, small compact bunches, loads of flavour and depth to the fruit. A real fruit bomb and resultant concentrated wine.

Syrah:

From the beautiful Pokolbin Estate Vineyard, the light to medium clay soil of this vineyard tends to stay cooler and retain water better, giving us sumptuous fruit, with underlying structure and weight. Whole-bunch pressed fruit has shown lovely silky tannin integration.
